Drainage

Almost every premature surfacing failure we are called to has water at the root of it. It sits, works into the surface, freezes, and lifts the material apart. Dealing with drainage is not an upsell on a surfacing job; it is the part that makes the rest worth doing.

What we install

• Gullies and connections to existing surface water systems
• Linear channel drainage across entrances, thresholds and yard falls
• Soakaways where mains connection is not available or permitted
• Permeable and porous build-ups for SuDS requirements
• Regrading to correct falls where water currently ponds
• Interceptors where required on fuelling or wash-down areas

Planning requirements

In England, new or replacement driveways over five square metres that drain directly to the public highway need planning permission. Permeable surfacing, or directing run-off to a soakaway or soft landscaping within the property, avoids that. On commercial schemes, discharge rates are often controlled by the local authority or the water company.
